Since humans conquered the third dimension, aviation accidents have happened regularly. In the early days of aviation, with its wire, wood and canvas planes ​​and failure-prone engines, crashes and other incidents were the order of the day.

The files of the Federal Archives (SFA) contain numerous reports on accidents involving Swiss and foreign aircraft. A systematic overview of the known aircraft accidents since 1919 (in chronological order) with reference to the SFA file number of the corresponding accident report can be found here:

As a voluntary mission leader in the Search And Rescue Co-ordination Center (SAR-RCC) and a member of the on-call service of the Federal Office for Civil Aviation FOCA, I became directly concerned with a number of aircraft accidents in Switzerland.
